There is something about water towns that make me smile. A lot of these town have been very picturesque and I was happy to know that Bruges turns out to be a water town. Of course, not all waters towns are the same. The buildings in particular are quite different in style from the Venetian ones I saw. Although the houses in Bruges were not as polished as the ones in Venice, somehow leaving it unpolished gives it a more authentic feel. I guess much of it is true since this is still a living and breathing city. You can still see the local folk going about their lives, obviously used to the hordes of tourists that descend into this town every day.
One of the most do activities here is to walk along the canals which traverse the city. Each part has its own charm, in fact, we passed a canal just as we were entering the town and it had a forest like feeling. We were were now is the part which is the medieval city and it also has a different feeling. I think we would be able to see more of these scenery and I believe they will all be quite picturesque. One activity is to rent a bike here and just explore the town. The streets are all cobbled though so it might be a little hard on the butt. But a bike would certainly help cover more ground than mere walking.
