The historic town of Bruges may not be that well known to me but now I know how much I have been missing. This is a very charming town with most of the old buildings still intact. I felt sorry that I didn’t plan on staying here overnight since I was intending to go back to Brussels that very night. I blame work since didn’t get to plan the trip much because I was too busy with other stuff. Well, now that I am finally here, I can finally relax a bit. Yes, I didn’t get to plan that much I think I should still make the most of what we have right now. I don’t expect Bruges to be very big and we should be able to go through the important places in less than a day.
As you might expect in a European city or town, art is a very huge part of Bruges. Along the way, we noticed four statues of which were displayed on a small square. The sculptures appeared to be four horses with men riding on top of them. The horses weren’t very realistic and in fact they looked a bit creepy. My friend then exclaimed that it is the four horsemen of the apocalypse. It made sense. This is a sculpture by Rik Poot, a Belgian sculptor. This is not some old sculpture as it was completed in 1987. It still gives an air of being and old sculpture, probably because the horses look creepy.
