When we stepped out of the Ailwee CAve, we found out that there were shops outside the cave area. It was a farm shop, which basically sell stuff straight from the farm. It was intrigued as there was also a cheese shop here which sells, of course, cheese. More interestingly, they make their cheese in the premises. It shows since the place smells of cheese. There is a window where you can see where the cheese is being made. I think they just leave the cheese to curdle in the large vat. We didn’t get to see the contents of the vat though.
We were told by the staff that they make the cheese in batches and there would be able to make a whole year’s supply in a few months. I’m not sure if a lot of people come to buy their cheese here but the fact that the cheese if made here is probably a good selling point. They have huge discs of cheese drying out on the shelves. The staff was nice enough to let me take a photo of the merchandise. I’m sure there will be people who love cheese but I guess it just isn’t my kind of food, unless it is sprinkled on crisps.
