I spent a comfortable night at the Shanlin House. The room was large and cozy. It probably wasn’t as cold as Donegal but at least I didn’t feel cold in the house. The next day turned out to be a beautiful day, at least that morning. We were to explore south of Galway city and we head out early to start our exploration. Our first destination isn’t really that far from the city. It was only about a thirty minute drive out. Hopefully the good weather holds up. We didn’t really have a very good plan when we came here. We were only following another map which hopefully will be more useful than the last one.
Our first stop is Dunguaire Castle, which in the village of Kinvarra. This village is by the sea and someone happened to build a castle here. I think it was a lovely place to choose to build one. But I think it serves a more strategic purpose. We found a nice parking place not too far from the castle itself. It is not difficult to find the place since everyone on foot here will probably be going to the same place. One would just need to look out to sea to find out where it is.
