From the inside, Kylemore Abbey looked more like a mansion rather than an abbey. These is probably the legacy left behind when it was still really just a mansion. As you can imagine, a mansion is where a rich person lives and not surprisingly, there rooms here were richly decorated. The first hall we explored is a sitting room which is probably where the owner would come to meet guests. The chairs here were quite fancy and it would not be stuff I would find in my own house. The current setup seems to be just for a few people, I don’t see the seats handling a lot of people.
Perhaps, the owner doesn’t expect too many people here and I guess it makes sense. One of the centerpieces of the sitting room is the fireplace. It is easy to imagine how people would be here enjoying the warm fire. It is quite common then to have ornate fire places. I guess, back then it served as the television set. The fire place here is actually still in use. It was cold outside so I was staying close to the fire where it was warm. At the same time, I was able to have a good look at the fire place and the mantel. There were a few items on the mantel and it looks like they are stuff which rich people would own. You probably won’t see too much of these stuff now.
