When I set out to take a photo of the New York cityscape, I only had taking a photos of the Brooklyn Bridge in mind. I didn’t think realize that it is possible to walk on the Brooklyn Bridge itself. I saw people walking on the bridge and thought that it would be a good experience to do so. I managed to find the entrance to the bridge on the way back to the subway station, it brings you above the bridge level for safety. There is an elevated walkway up here and visitors can explore the bridge in safety.
The walkway is quite generous and it can accommodate a lot of people at one time. It is wide enough to allow bicycles to pass through. Every now and then there would be bells ringing to signal that a bicycle is passing through. There was no danger of getting run over as everyone was careful. There is a dedicated bike lane so as long as you do not wander into the bike lane you should be okay. The walkway also offers you a view of the traffic below. It was night time and you can see the rush hour traffic here. It is still moving, so it is not as bad as the traffic in other countries.
