The days went by very quickly, I had a grand time even during the business meetings which was the whole point why I visited the United States in the first place. I got to know new colleagues and good friends. Now the official business trip is over and I managed to get some time off after the meetings. I have a couple of days before heading back. I decided to spend it in New York City. I have a Chinese colleague in our office and I told him I was craving for some good Chinese food. He recommended that I go to this place calls Flushing in New York City. It is near the bed and breakfast where I was staying in and I think I would be able to get there. I decided to travel there by train, I had to make a transfer to get there but nothing too difficult.

I was surprised to see how Flushing looked like, or rather felt like. It felt like I was suddenly transported to a city in China. This place was a huge Chinatown. There were Chinese signs all around and of course most of the people here were Asian, most probably Chinese. I hear a lot of Chinese being spoken here and it felt weird to be in a place like this but realize that it was still in New York. I got lost trying to find the restaurant since I was looking at the map the wrong way. But I managed to find it, Joe’s Shanghai 鹿鸣春, as the name implies is a Shanghainese restaurant. I only came with one goal in mind and that was for xiaolongbao.

The xiaolongbao here in Joe’s Shanghai was highly recommended by my Chinese colleague who is also Shanghainese so you can see this is as good as it gets. I ordered on basket of xiaolongbao and a meat dish, I think it was ginger pork or something, I can’t remember. The ginger pork dish was a mistake on my part since I misread the menu it was nice but not what I was looking for. The xialongbao was as good as he said it was. For those who do not know, xiaolongbao are dumplings which have a bit of broth in them. Biting into the these dumplings releases a mouthful of tasty broth, the experience is just heavenly. Though not the healthiest thing in the world, xialongbao here is good, but I had better ones in Singapore though but this is the best one I had in a long, long time and it doesn’t really fall behind by that much.
