My friend and I were very much aware that we have an appointment to keep. So we needed to get out and make our way back to our meeting place which is at Rockefeller Center. Based on our estimations, we should be able to make it back with plenty of time to spare. That was until we saw the queue for the ferry heading back to New York City. It was almost late afternoon and everybody was on their way out. I foolishly didn’t anticipate this. The queue was much too slow for me and we had to let two ferries pass before we had a chance to board.
We took walked to the subway station which was nearest the ferry terminal. Even then, we still took our sweet time to walk there. There was a busker performing but he took too long to finish his performance so we left him. The nearest subway station was the Bowling Green. It won’t be our first time to take the subway so we were rather confident about getting to our destination. After all, we already told our common friend that we would be late. I never expected to get lost in the subway system.
The New York subway map was maddening to use and it was difficult to find out which stations go where. Even if you think you figured it out, the train you were watching out for isn’t operational for whatever reason. We spent some time getting on a a train, getting off another station, heading back and basically getting lost. We were not alone as there were a lot of people who looked just as lost as we were. Miraculously, we managed to find our way to the correct metro station and we were one and a half hours late. We spent more than thirty minutes trying to figure out how to get there. Maybe a taxi might have been faster, however, I’m not sure if that is an experience I’m ready for.
