By the time we arrived at Ellis Island, my friend and I were already tired from all the walking. The summer heat was sapping away our strength and I think neither of us were used to this heat anymore. Funny how a few years in the cold can do that to you. I’m probably faring a little better as my friend was already complaining of sore feet. We took a quick whirl around the Immigration Station at Ellis Island, after all, this is still part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument Park.
As the name implies, the Immigration Station at Ellis Island is the entry point for millions of immigrants back when this station was still in operation. It was considered the busiest one since most migrants will be coming from that side of the country. Now, it is a museum which tells the story of the waves of migrants who came to the United States in the search for a better life. There were numerous nationalities who came here including some which I never expected such as the Germans. I already knew that the Irish people also helped build the United States to what it is today and their story is also represented here. After a while, we took a short break since the museum was much cooler without the blazing sun outside. This will also give my good friend a much needed rest.
