When I signed up for the Statue of Liberty tour, I would have been happy with just the Statue of Liberty but this particular one which we signed up for included another destination which I was not familiar with, but my friend with me has been to that place. Ellis Island is just a short hop from Liberty Island and it is the last stop in our Statue of Liberty tour. I don’t know anything about this island and why it is so important. It is just as well since we will have to stop here anyway. We will try to make a mad dash around the place so we can make our appointment.
We didn’t have any problem taking the ferry to Ellis Island, there wasn’t a long queue of passengers waiting to board the ferry, I’m hoping it stays that way. Upon docking at the Ellis Island pier, visitors will be greeted by a large building which is apparently the immigration processing building. Even back then, there were a lot of immigrants who dream of a life in the United States, when they travel by sea, this is the place where most of the immigrants inevitably end up. Think of this as the modern day equivalent of immigration control in airports. This was the busiest immigration control point in the country for a while.
