The whole point of this walking in the hot summer sun was to get to the ferry terminal for the Statue of Liberty tour. Granted we could have just taken a subway all the way to the ferry terminal but we would have missed a lot of stuff to see or maybe even gotten lost in the subway. At the end of that walk along Battery Park we came upon the start of the queue for the Statue of Liberty Cruise. There is supposedly a free ferry ride somewhere but I didn’t know where it was. I later found out that we needed to walk just a little further down after this terminal. I don’t know if the queue would be any better there but this one was bad enough.
The queue was snaking its way with a lot of tourists waiting to get in. What is probably taking the most time here are the security checks which are not that different from airport security checks. I guess it is understandable that they put in security measures to protect such an important symbol of the country. I don’t like it myself but I can’t think of a way to ensure that bad elements won’t try to get through here and cause damage to the very symbol of the United States. There is no getting around this and I assume that the other terminal also has the same setup.
