Practically all of the sights I would visit here in New York City would be man made, it is different from the scenery I have been seeing in Ireland, but I must say that this was a nice change of pace from being in the country everyday. I got used to being in the city once again but I miss having a car to bring me around. Transportation is very convenient in New York city but I was making my way around the city on foot and just following my map. I was heading downtown, which meant that I’m heading south. I just stumbled into another iconic New York landmark.
The Flatiron Building is probably one of the more unique buildings in the city. The name of the building comes from the shape of the building which is similar to it’s namesake object. The plot of land was exceedingly narrow and this was the only shape of building which they could possibly build here. Even in land scarce New York city, this was still a valuable piece of land despite the shape of the land. The building was co-designed by famed architect Daniel Burnham and it quickly attracted attention worldwide. I would probably be cool to have a corner office here in this building, since you probably get more than a 90 degree view of the area. The building was built in 1902 and that makes it more than a hundred years old. It quite amazing to think that this is a modern office building which was built more than a hundred years ago.
