I was wandering around New York City rather haphazardly, with a map in hand I was trying to find some famous landmarks which I have only seen in photos. The layout of New York is a strict grid pattern so as long as you manage to learn where the four cardinal directions are, you should be able to find out which direction which street is. The streets are numbered so it is rather easy to remember which way to go. However, the city is huge. The blocks can be quite big so the walks can take a bit of time. I was trying to cross the avenues by following the map, there seem to be a few interesting places near my location.
In the map, one of the places which I heard of which was relatively near is the Rockefeller Center. I have to admit that I didn’t know what Rockefeller Center is. All I know is that there is a giant Christmas tree displayed there every Christmas. It wasn’t Christmas yet so I didn’t get to see it. The center is highlighted by a 70 story tower which was built during the Great Depression, this became a story of commitment and belief that New York City would pull through. The plaza also has a sunken cafe in front of it. In the winter this turns into a skating rink. I think Christmas would be nice time to visit New York. I will be revisiting this place and hopefully will have better photos.
