Our location in county Donegal is quite convenient to reach various beautiful places in the area. One of the places which I haven’t really explored that much is the Ards Forest Park. I was dragged to this place previously but I wasn’t really prepared for the visit. I remember it involved a lot of walking but I had a feeling that I didn’t really see most of what Ards had to offer. I was still on a one week vacation so I decided to visit this place again. It was just a thirty minute drive from town. Instead of heading into the forest park itself. I decided to head to a different part of the area. The Ards Friary is one of the places of interest here at Ards, aside from that, they have a nice parking area.
As the name implies, this place is a spiritual place. I don’t think it was coincidence that the they decided to build a friary here in this area since it was beautiful here. It is known as a retreat center and I can imagine how much more effective retreats are if you are in a beautiful environment. When I was younger, our school would bring us out of town for retreats and we would come back renewed spiritually. This friary has a schedule of retreat interested folk can join. From the parking lot, you would see the church of the friary. I decided to pay a visit first before doing my exploration.
