I managed to spot the distinctive bell tower of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Dunlewey. The round bell tower was not easy to miss. I think these designs are quite unique compared to the more traditional designs I have seen here. The Church of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic Church, there was no service going on at the time of my visit. However, based on my research, it seems that they mainly have Irish services here. Dunlewey is part of the Gaeltacht area where Irish is the native tongue. There is still English here naturally, I still have to encounter anyone speaking in Irish here or perhaps I just dismissed it as another European language.

Inside the Church of the Sacred Heart in Dunlewey

The church isn’t really that big, it actually feels more like a chapel. The interiors are simple with a wooden roof over it. There isn’t really anything special either but it was a welcome break from the winds that day. Even inside the church you can hear the winds blowing, probably making it even more scary. I took a short break inside the church to contemplate the meaning of life. Outside the church, there was a large figure of the crucified Christ. The rest of the church grounds are reserved for the cemetery. I remember that there was a photo of this church against Mount Errigal but I don’t see how anyone can possibly take that photo without going down to the farmland below. I was hoping that maybe if I keep driving, I would find a spot which would make that shot.
