When I was planning this trip, I was just set on exploring this part of Donegal. I was told that this place was quite picturesque so I came. It really is very lovely here considering the weather. There were ruins of the Dunlewey Church of Ireland which made the place quite moody but suited the weather just fine. As I was driving away, I looked back at the church and noticed that there was a tall mountain behind it. It was actually a mountain which was closer to the highway where I came from but from this distance, it would appear the mountain was a good background for the church. I found out that the mountain here is actually Mount Errigal, which is the tallest mountain in the county. It is also the second tallest in the country.
Having said that, I looked at Mount Errigal and felt that the mountain wasn’t really that tall at all. I have seen a few tall mountains but I don’t think they were this short. I was reasoning that perhaps general area here is already high enough that from the highway it doesn’t look that tall anymore. I thought that makes it even an easier mountain to climb. The top of Mount Errigal is shrouded in clouds though but it really isn’t that far to the top. I was told some friends climb Mount Errigal regularly and the ground is quite uneven so it may be a tricky climb. I was surprised to know that it is actually easier to climb it in the winter since the snow would make the ground more solid. I would love to climb this mountain. I understand it doesn’t really take very long to climb either. It is not very often that I would get to summit a mountain even if it is this short. Hopefully, I would get a chance.
