I loved the view from the viewpoint which overlooks Lough Dunlewey and the small village which sits on its shores. There seems to be a church which was rather prominent and I would like to get a better look at it. I wasn’t sure how to get there since there was no road down to the village from where I was. I was trying to trace a possible road but it seemed to be in the distance. I have a gut feeling that there will be a road on the left which will lead down to the village and the GPS seems to agree. It wasn’t really that far but it was a rather sharp turn to the left going down towards the village.
The road was quite narrow and it can only fit one car at a time. Fortunately, there were places where drivers can pull over to let others through. This place is actually called the Poisoned Glen. The name itself is mysterious but it seems to stem from a mistranslation. Irish word “neamhe” means heavenly, while the word for poison is “neaimhe”, a single letter difference and possible mistake. Anyway, the Poisoned Glen name stuck but it is more appropriate to call it heavenly once you are here. The most prominent landmark here is probably the church so this is where I would be heading to.
