I didn’t think I would actually find the Titanic Belfast interesting. I suppose, I already made up my mind as to how boring it would be. I probably have a pretty good idea on the story of the Titanic, no thanks to Leonardo DiCaprio, but this takes it to a whole new level of detail. There were numerous stories here not just about Jack and Rose, but stories of real people who survived the tragedy and they tell the story of how it was to be on the ship. There were numerous photos of the ship but this is also the modern age and we have computer generated renderings of the interiors of the ship.
There was an area which simulated a visitor taking a lift through various levels of the ship. I thought this part was very well done as it gives you an idea how it is to walk around the ship. Amusingly, there was also a stairway which was featured in the movie. It looked like Rose would come walking down the stairs anymore moment. So I guess, there was really a basis for the movie. I imagined that it would be so cool to actually recreate the ship as a museum but that would be prohibitively expensive given how big the ship actually was. The RMS Titanic was the largest passenger ship at that time. RMS actually means Royal Mail Ship, so it was authorized to carry Royal Mail, the official post office of the United Kingdom. It is plying the Southampton to New York route, so aside from ferrying passengers, it also carried mail. Yes, back then they had to physically carry the mail from one place to another.
