We were severely delayed in following our itinerary that we had to cut it very short. We underestimated the time to explore some part of the Game of Thrones tour that we had to stop a Ballintoy Harbour and cut it short. We will probably continue the tour some other time but for now, we need to worry about where to eat. We made our way to the city of Belfast in Northern Ireland. We were intending to have Chinese food for dinner here. It was already seven in the evening by the time we got there that we didn’t really care where were going to eat. I managed to find this place called Steamboat Oriental BBQ and it was supposed to the place for steamboat, also known as hot pot. I had this in Asia before and I think I had grown a liking to it.
I usually prefer my food already cooked and all I had to do was shove it in. I thought it was a huge chore having to cook it yourself and wait for it to cook that I avoided it. But I came to learn of better kinds of hot pot where the quality of the broth would make up for the trouble of cooking the food yourself. The Steamboat Oriental BBQ in Belfast was not a huge place, but there were a lot of local Chinese customers in there and I thought that it was a good sign. You order a personal pot each person and you pick the broth you want. I got the spicy one and so did my companions. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. The stuff for the steamboat wasn’t that great. There was too little meat and too little variety. I was used to a multitude of ingredients to throw into the pot but the choice here were not very good. We ended up cooking stuff too long as well which made the broth super spicy. We had to turn off the heat to keep it from getting too hot but I think the damage has been done. I would probably come back here but I would order the menu dishes rather than the hotpot. I see the local Chinese would be having the dishes instead of the hotpot but I think we were too excited to realize why.
