The Hezlett House is an interesting side trip in the Game of Thrones trail. This is part of the Downhill Demesne ticket and I believe it was a worthwhile trip. It is more of an educational trip rather than a sightseeing trip though. Kids are probably brought here to find out how people lived back then when there was no internet. It is not an easy life back then, I guess it is hoped that the kids go back with a new perspective on things. The house is not the only place of interest here. There is also a garden where kids can play. I immediately noticed a hut that was built at the far end of the garden. The design of the hut didn’t seem very Irish and it really looked like it was yanked out of South East Asia. I never knew the origins of that hut but it could just be pure coincidence.
Going back to our parking, we passed by a picnic area. This was below a very tall tree and I thought it was a very nice place to have a picnic. If the weather were good, it certainly would be at great place to relax. The site was by the main road so it may detract some visitors. I believe there is also a visitor center here but somehow we didn’t pass through this place. We actually head straight for the house. It doesn’t really matter since most visitors will be coming from the Downhill Demesne when visiting.
