A Peek in the Downhill House

The Downhill House is probably one of the most important structures here was Downhill Demense. The country home of the earl and bishop Frederick Hervey was built on this vast estate. As we can see from the photos, much of the house is now ruined. Roof and windows were all gone. I think the site seems to be a little too clean since you don’t see stray pieces of rock anywhere. I would have expected fragments of the window to be found somewhere. I’m guessing that if they were to let visitors in, these random pieces of the house would have to be removed to prevent any accidents. Even the portals where the windows should be seem to be too clean for something which is supposedly two hundred years old.

Walking in the house grounds, visitors might be up for a disappointment. There is a lot of nothing here. I guess they leave it to the imagination as to what could have possibly been there at that point in time. Visitors can go explore various parts of the house but really there wasn’t much to be seen here. There is a lot of walls which line the house and former rooms of the house. Going in there, it makes you realize how big the house actually is. It wasn’t very obvious looking at it from the main entrance of the house. Rather than a house, it is more appropriately described as a mansion.
