The whole point of building Mussenden Temple was that it had a magnificent location overlooking the cliffs and the beach below. Fortunately, just beyond the temple are the demesne walls which conveniently stop at the cliff’s edge. This makes the perfect viewing area for Downhill Strand below. The cliff isn’t exactly very high but it is still high enough that a fall from here will most probably be fatal. It is still a great vantage point to see the coast. There is a nice stretch of sand here called Downhill Strand. I can only imagine how it looks like on a good day since that day wasn’t exactly very nice.
To the right of the viewpoint, the landscape gets a bit more rocky. There is a hill here where which houses a railway tunnel. We happened to see the tracks used that time by several trains which passed through. It seems like it is a busy line. Following the wall it is a walk downhill to the wooded area of the demesne. I like how they planned the layout of the demense. You can see how there is a part which is close to the cliffs and the sea. A part which is just grassy. And another part which is wooded. When you have this amount of land, it makes sense to make the most of it.
