The village of Downhill is our first stop in our Game of Thrones tour. There are actually several parts to the tour and we won’t be able to cover everything in one trip. Besides, it would be tiring to jump from one place to another without properly enjoying the place. When we arrived at Downhill, it was a typical Irish day, wet, windy and miserable. This is especially pronounced when you are near the sea. There was a carpark near the beach and we walked in. There was no entrance fee here, you can even drive your car into the beach itself but decided not to. There was a bridge at the entrance and I think those were railroad tracks. I imagined that ride would have been very spectacular with the tracks hugging the coast.
Just walking into the area already got sand in my shoes. The recent rain made walking on the beach difficult. We were naturally trying to avoid getting wet but there were parts where you might need to dip as some streams have formed in the sand because of the recent rain and possibly tide. I’m no stranger to these kinds of places since Ireland has a lot of them. In another part of the beach, there was one other visitor and they seem to be having fun performing tricks with their car. I’m not so sure if it was a good idea to do so but I didn’t see anything happen to them – yet. Well, we were just here to take photos and hopefully we will move on soon.
