As we were walking towards the eastern end of the island, we came upon one of its more striking features. It was a very narrow strip of land which juts out to the sea. The thing that makes it very interesting is that the land is still quite high. It is almost you lay a sword on its edge. This place is no doubt the source of many legends, and it is not surprising to see why. The amazing strip of land is called Tormore Ridge. Imagine it would be fun to walk along the edge of this sword to the very end but it is not that simple. The path stops very early and one would need climbing gear to make it all the way to the end – Tormore Summit. If I was a mountain climber I think it would be a very interesting challenge to make it to the very end unfortunately, I wasn’t so I just take photos of it.
There was an elevation where you can view Tormore Ridge edge on. You can see here how narrow this strip of land really is. This is the product of thousands of years of erosion. It is amazing that the ridge is still holding. Given how narrow this strip is, it won’t be long before parts of it fall into the sea. Tormore Ridge is an amazing place to conclude our exploration of this side of the island. We will try to make our way to the other end of the island. Although it still wasn’t late in the day, the ferry back to the mainland would be arriving soon and we need to make sure that we get on it!
