Lunch Break at Tory Island

Rocky Beach for Lunch at Tory Island

Rocky Beach for Lunch at Tory Island

Our ferry to Tory Island arrived later than the 11:30 scheduled time. Because of this we arrived at Tory island much later than expected. This left us with even less time to explore this remote island. We worked quickly to explore some parts of the island particularly the cliffs which were absolutely stunning. After that we decided to take a break for lunch. It was going to be a late lunch for us and I was already starving. We already bought some sandwiches from the mainland so it was just a matter of trying to find a nice place to eat. We decided on a spot on the opposite side of the island. It isn’t a very long walk but hunger got the better of me and I was already munching on my sandwich as we were making our way to the spot.

We found a spot which was near rocky beach but with nice calm waters. It seems that the cliff side takes the brunt of all the waves while this part of the island it much more quiet. It is nice to be able to notice these differences as you get a better appreciation of life on this island. All this time, there was a local dog which has been tailing us. The dog was a playful one and he doesn’t seem to be afraid of strangers nor cliffs for that matter. In fact, there were times when the dog would try chasing the seabirds which were flying near the cliffs. I was holding my breath to see when the dog would fall.

Dog Playing a Game of Fetch at Tory Island

While I was done with my lunch. It was time to play a little game of tag with the dog. We didn’t have much to play with so we got rocks. We threw a rock and he would go run after it and lay it back in front of us. Somehow the dog was able to figure out which rock he was supposed to look for. It is possible that the dog was using is keen sense of smell to tell which rock was which. It is also possible that the dog was randomly taking a rock and handing it back to us, thinking that we won’t notice. Either way, he seemed to be a smart dog. The game of fetch was continuing indefinitely until we got tired. The dog kept following us even as we continued on our exploration.
