This was not intended to be an in depth exploration of Streedagh since we were just passing by. The beach at Streedagh was easy enough to find. There were signs along the way and I guess you just follow the water. There was a parking area to leave the car as we can walk down to the beach. However, when I saw the beach here it wasn’t exactly love at first sight. The beach he was rock and strewn with dead vegetation. It was very different from the beach at Portsalon in Donegal. However, I am aware of some rules which govern the management of beaches here and it seems that leaving vegetation and algae alone is one of the rules. There are supposed to be waste management rules here but I don’t see any facilities here.
Unlike nearby Strandhill, the water is much calmer here, I don’t really understand how it can be that different, perhaps the underwater topography is a factor on how rough the waters are. The winds here aren’t as bad either. Still, and isolated beach is always a welcome sight. I grew up in a place where beaches abound as well but there people love beaches and people flock to them in the summer. Although it was still technically summer when we visited Streedagh, the weather wasn’t exactly telling me to go out to the sea and take the plunge. Even if I did, the waters here would be cold, not exactly fun for me.
