It was close to the Feast of the Assumption and we were given the opportunity visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Knock. This seems to be a Marian apparition site and I never knew about this place until a dear friend of mine told me about it. I am aware of some of the more famous Marian apparition sites which are in Europe, like Fatima in Portugal, Lourdes in France and Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I was surprised and excited to know that there was a well known one here in Ireland. It is a fair distance from our place and it would take around three hours to get there. We decided to drive since we wanted to be able to go around the area after we are done with the pilgrimage.
We were actually traveling together with a group of friends but they took the bus. For some reason, they got there ahead of us, but we still needed to take our lunch when we got there. There aren’t too many choices here at Knock since this is basically a church town. Don’t expect a lot of bars here. We ended up at 4Ds Restaurant which was very near Knock Shrine. It was a small but charming little restaurant. We all ordered full Irish breakfasts, which is always rashers, sausages, hash browns, white and black pudding and fried egg. I don’t really see how anyone can make a better Irish breakfast than the other since all are basically cooked exactly the same way. We had an appointment that day in the shrine and needed to finish quickly.
