Never in a million years would I have associated Ireland with beautiful beach. I have always imagined beautiful beaches to be in tropical countries, where the water is actually warm enough to swim in. Ballymastocker Strand is a very good example of a beautiful beach in Ireland. It is surprisingly pristine and you might be forgiven if you think it is an undiscovered paradise. That is if you imagine to be wearing jumpers to go to the beach in summer. Yes, I know it is just me but it just wasn’t warm enough for me to wear a shirt and shorts. Anyway, if I could think of a perfect beach here in Ireland, this would probably be the closest one.
As a matter of fact, I wasn’t the only one thinking of this. Ballymastocker Strand was once named as the second most beautiful beach in the world. The honor of being the most beautiful beach in the world went to Seychelles, probably deservedly so. This is not to say that Ballymastocker Strand is not deserving of the accolade. There are no coconut trees that you would associate with more mainstream beaches, but this beach is probably one of the cleanest and best maintained one I have ever been to. Not surprising that it was awarded the Blue Flag for the maintenance of the beach. You can see the flag flying proudly near the parking lot.
