We were a bit disappointed that we weren’t able to enter the lighthouse at Fanad Head. When we head back to the car park, we saw someone who appeared to be the man in charge of the place locking the main gate. We went over to chat with him to find out if it is possible to go up the lighthouse. It doesn’t seem to be open for public visits. He did say that it was okay to go to the grounds of the lighthouse as long as we close the gates, fair enough. We were already on our way out of Fanad Head anyway. We will be retracing our steps on our way back home.
We remembered that amazing beach we saw one our way to Fanad Head and determined that we need to go there. Just before we hit that large strip of golden sand, we first stopped by Portsalon Beach. Now, this beach seems to be a much small beach than I expected and it doesn’t in any way compare to the magnificent golden beach we saw earlier. There was a cluster of holiday cottages here with a rock beach in front of it. The was some sand here but it quite disappointing. It was summer and I guess people are expected to visit the beach. I was still wearing my winter jacket since I thought it was still cold. It hardly ever gets warm enough for you to break a sweat here but a lot of people would probably beg to differ. It was interesting to see a beach in another part of the world. One interesting difference was the people usually swim in the beaches with wetsuits on. This was because the water was still too cold even in the summer. I probably won’t see myself swimming here. We waters seems to be very clean anyway, but this is probably not for me.
