Fanad Drive isn’t a very long route. The way is actually very well signposted so, it was not easy to get lost. We were actually unsure about the way since the we used out GPS software to point us the way. Unfortunately, Fanad Head didn’t seem to be known to the software. 3G data seemed to be spotty in this area so we couldn’t really use the internet. It was best for us to use offline maps, but this will only work if the offline maps knows about the place. I had an idea of where Fanad Head would be so we just pointed it to the general area and crossed our fingers. There was something on the map which referred to a lighthouse, I believe it was a bar or a restaurant. Hopefully it was close to where we wanted to go. Despite the difficulty locating the place, I think this brings back the enjoyment of going to a place which you have never been to.
We soon approached the sea and we naturally thought that this was where we needed to be, so where is this lighthouse? It usually the most prominent structure in the area and it should be easy to spot. We found it to the right and continued on. We passed by the restaurant on the map and head to the car park. There weren’t a lot of people there and we were wondering if we were in the correct place. The lighthouse was right there so this should be the place. Unfortunately, even though it was still technically summer, the weather isn’t that good. I guess, that is as good as it gets here in Ireland.
