Another View of the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge

When people come to Carrick-a-Rede, almost all of the people would be coming he to see the famous rope bridge. When I first heard of this, I thought to myself, how interesting could a rope bridge be? I have been a few rope bridges and a few more harrowing to cross than others but they are basically the same. The difference here is the scenery where the rope bridge is built. The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge has beautiful scenery here but what probably defines a rope bridge would be its length. Of course, the longer the better to appreciate the beauty of the scenery here.

The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge

The Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge is a bridge which was built by fishermen. It used to be that migrating salmon would pass by this place in vast numbers. Fishermen were aware of this and built the rope bridge to hang their nets from. You can still see the fishermen’s shelter on the connecting island but it was off limits to visitors. It would be very interesting to see this in action but the salmon are no longer there. I don’t know if it is a case of overfishing or just that the salmon learned to avoid this place to avoid getting caught. Crossing the rope bridge is the main activity here now that it is just a tourist attraction. The brige was surprisingly short, but they still limit the number of people on the bridge. There was a control guy at the bridge and he tells you whether it was okay to cross. Maybe he was already itching to go home as he rather rudely told us to just cross the bridge. I did pay good money for this, I don’t think there was a reason to treat us that way. There was a time limit on the connecting island since it was already closing time, so it was best to get moving.
