When I was exploring the ruins of Dunluce Castle here in County Antrim, I noticed that the coastline of this part of the county seems to be quite beautiful. I have been using this word a lot when describing Ireland ever since I came here and it is not an exaggeration. When the weather is right, you can probably find some of the most beautiful seascapes here. The area around Dunluce Castle is very rocky and probably intentionally so. This might have been done to prevent ships from dropping anchor nearby. If they managed to drop anchor, invaders will have to contend with very steep and sharp rocks to be able to enter the castle. It probably worked, for a while.
When they are not being invaded here, they probably spent the day just admiring the scenery. To the left of the castle you can sheer cliffs which remind me a bit of the Cliffs of Moher which is in county Galway, that is a trip for another day. Come to think of it I was wondering why we didn’t have a closer look at those cliffs. The waters around the castle are very clear and you see the bottom. I really don’t blame them for choose this spot to build the castle since this seem to be quite picturesque. With the beautiful weather we had during our visit. This made for some very pretty photos.
