Inside the Airport Train in Rome

When we first came to Rome, we arrived by train at the Roma Termini train station. It was not very big and it was full of people. I was almost expecting it to be a very large station given that there are a lot of trip in a day. It was far from a modern train station but it works. Anyway, I was here to get to the airport. There is an express train to get there but the trick is to find it. I managed to purchase the ticket from a kiosk. There were not a lot of signs for the train but I managed to find it, it was a the last platform to the right of the station.

Apparently, you need to validate the ticket before you board the train. This is probably so that people won’t reuse the ticket each time they use the train. But it wasn’t exactly clear how to go about validating this ticket. Fortunately, there were a lot of “helpful” people by the ticket validation machine, who were only too willing to show you how to use the machine, perhaps too willing. I was very mindful of these people as they are known to be troublemakers. Instead of heading straight to the machine, I watch other validate first relieving them of the need to validate for me.

I saw a Chinese tourist trying to fend off these people and she was screaming for them to stay away from here. I think that is a good strategy as it would attract attention and keep them from doing something funny. I was hoping the station authorities would keep these people away from the platform. Perhaps, only people with a ticket would be allowed on the platform. Other people would be trying to “help” you carry your stuff onto the train. It was only a few more steps, if you made it that far, you would be able to make it to the train. Fortunately, they did not follow people into the train. After their “help” they would ask for their compensation. I didn’t avail of this “service” but it pays to watch out for them and watch out for your belongings.
