I was very pleased with the Fontana di Trevi as it is one of the most beautiful fountains I have ever seen. The baroque design really brings out the beauty of the structure. It seems that it wasn’t just the fountain that was the recipient of the baroque design boom as various areas of Rome were designed with baroque aesthetics. One of these places is the famous Spanish Steps. I have heard of this place before but I didn’t know what it really was. In my research, it realized that it was really just a flight of stairs. It was baroque type of stairs if that means anything. It basically connects the Piazza di Spagna to the church on top of the steps.
There is an old Spanish embassy here at the Piazza di Spagna and this is where the square gets its name – Spain Plaza. There is also supposed to be a fountain here but it seems to be under renovation. The Spanish Steps are also one of the most famous spots in the city so it is not unusual to see a lot of people here. So what exactly do people do there? Not much, usually they just sit on the steps and just people watch. When we first visited, there were not too many people there. It was already dark so a lot of them already went home. Amusingly, there was this group or choir which was singing at the Spanish steps. I never knew why they were there in the first place or why they were singing. The songs weren’t in English that’s for sure.
