The Fontana di Trevi or the Trevi Fountain in Rome is one of the most well known landmarks in the city. It was even made more famous by the song Three Coins in the Fountain. The waters of the fountain have been flowing for hundreds of years and legend says that a virgin girl led the Romans to the waters which fed the aqueducts which feed the Roman baths. The spot where the fountain now stands marks the end point of the aqueduct. A grand fountain was built with the virgin immortalized in the Baroque sculptures which decorate the fountain. It is doubtful that the virgin story is real but the fountain itself is very real.

This has got to be one of the most beautiful fountains that I have ever seen. It probably helped that people were trying to outdo each other in Rome and amazing art was being produced all over the city. The fountain is a product of that period. It has the appearance of a building near a pool of water. The water is supposedly clean but there are numerous coins there in the bottom of the pool, tossed by millions of tourists who passed by. It is said that you have to wish and throw the coin over your right shoulder. Did I do it? Yes, of course. The coins are regularly retrieved and the pool cleaned, though there is still temptation to just grab these euros lying around at the bottom of the pool.
