Perhaps it was because we breezed through the Vatican Museums that we were suddenly ahead of our itinerary. We were supposed to be exploring some famous parts of Rome for the rest of the day but we decided to take our time for a bit and head back to the apartment to drop off stuff. From the apartment, we decided to take the bus. It was a challenge I like to do whenever I am in a new place. Turns out that there is a bus right outside our apartment which goes to somewhere near the fountain. The toughest part was knowing when to get off the bus and I think we did a fairly good job. We arrived a bit early at the Fontana di Trevi or the Trevi Fountain. This is a pretty famous fountain and quite unlike the fountains I am accustomed to.
The Trevi Fountain was made world famous by the song three coins in the fountain. The fountain, like a lot of fountains, get thrown coins to as offerings for the wishers wishes. I wasn’t very familiar with the song Three Coins in the Fountain but I was aware of the practice of throwing coins in the fountain. The fountain has been in existence since the 1600s but the waters have been in use hundreds of years before that. There seems to be a lot of colorful history which involve this fountain, little wonder that it is one of the worlds most famous fountains.
