When I said I wanted to go to the Vatican Museum, I had only one goal in mind – to see the Sistine Chapel. When I was growing up, I had heard of the works of Michelangelo and how amazing and artist he was. He not just painted but he also sculpted. To me he was one of the most amazing artists I have ever heard of. I had also seen this works at Saint Peter’s Basilica as it turns out that the Pieta was on display there. I have known of these works of art from way back and I was very happy to see it there. Although Saint Peter’s Basilica is not the work of Michelangelo, he had some work done on the dome of the basilica. The Sistine Chapel is probably one of his most famous works and it is here at the Vatican Museum.
Much like the Louvre Museum, there were signs pointing to certain popular places in the museum. The Sistine Chapel is definitely one of the most, if not the most popular places in the entire museum. Everyone would probably find their way to the chapel one way or another. The Sistine Chapel is also significant, this is the place where cardinals would vote for a new pope. There have been two recent elections for popes and no doubt that this was used back then. The way to the chapel is narrow as it was never built for mass tourism in mind. Along the way you can just admire the vaulted ceiling.
