Bird Watching at the Saint Peter’s Basilica

I was very pleased that we were able to climb to the top of the dome of the Saint Peter’s Basilica. This is the dome of the largest church in the world and it also happens to be the the tallest dome in the world. It is not really surprising that Saint Peter’s Basilica has one of the best views of the Vatican and Rome. There wasn’t really much to see in the Vatican as it really just stops just outside the basilica itself. There are a few papal buildings here including the famous Vatican Museums but that will come later. We were making our way down to the basilica when we saw a rather interesting sight.

It was a bird and it was just hanging out on the roof of the basilica. It was close enough for us to approach but I would be a bit wary to get too close lest I scare it off. I believe the bird was a seagull, it was white and it has a yellow beak. For some reason it wasn’t really afraid of humans as we were continuously taking photos of the bird but it didn’t seem to mind. I was also surprised to know that seagulls can reach all the way here. I didn’t even know that Rome was near the sea. Now, I know better.
