I was delighted at the view of Saint Peter’s Square from the top of the Dome of Saint Peter’s Basilica. This is probably one of the signature photos which you can take when here in Rome or the Vatican City. However, you are not just limited to the view of the Saint Peter’s Square. You can also have a loook at the rest of Rome from here. For now, it is still the tallest structure in the city, but I don’t think they will be building anything tall in the area. I have been to a few European cities and they tend to keep existing structures the way they are. As a result, most of these European cities are quite flat. Most of the new development is done outside the old city.
I would be quite disappointed if the city authorities started tearing down the ancient structures to make way for more modern ones. Some places in Asia don’t seem to have this mindset yet so a lot of old history is being torn down in the name of progress. That is unfortunate, imagine Rome without its ancient buildings, there is no point to visit Rome if that were the case. In Rome, can see far into the distance since the city is very flat. It is very charming although a not very efficient use of space.
