We had a pretty good idea of where the narrow flight of stairs will be leading to. We would be ending up at the top of the dome of Saint Peter’s Basilica. I wonder with all the people climbing up the dome, how would everyone fit on top of the dome. As expected, the top wasn’t spacious at all there was space for use to take photos. But the views from the dome are amazing. Saint Peter’s Basilica is the tallest structure in the Vatican City and in Rome. It would probably be eclipsed someday by some hotel but at the moment, it gets you the what by far is the best view of the ancient city of Rome.
From here you can see Saint Peter’s Square. It really feels amazing to be standing in what is Catholicism’s biggest church. I was under the impression that it is the seat of Christendom but apparently that honor goes to another church. This is the biggest so most major ceremonies are held here. For now, I was happy to just look out of the window. You can see the square in its entirety. I was also fortunate that it was a very beautiful day. This gives the buildings more contrast. The people can still be seen, but from this distance, they are like ants.
