The more we walked the more people there seemed to be. It is not really surprising since we are approaching what can be considered the center of Rome. At one point in our walk, a lot of people were already walking on the street. I was thinking that it is probably a nightmare to drive here. The people in this area were mostly tourists or pilgrims. Their destination is, of course, Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City. Going to this place is probably one of my biggest dreams and I was still trying to come to terms with the fact that were actually going there. Our walking has slowed to a crawl with the huge number of people here. I was thinking how lucky we were that we didn’t stay in this area. It wouldn’t have been very pleasant, and I would have a bad impression of Rome just like what happened with Paris.
You can probably approach Saint Peter’s Basilica from a lot of different angles and all roads seems to lead to this place. As the dome of the basilica loomed over the horizon, so did my excitement. Thousands of other people were also excited to be here. I wasn’t sure if there was any event just now but there were seats here. I do remember that the canonization of two popular popes just happened a few days prior to our arrival and this could the reason for the huge number of visitors. The piazza outside Saint Peter’s Basilica was massive and we had to walk around that to get to the tour company where we bought our passes from. A few helpful people later and we found the place. I just hung outside while one of my companions went and collected the tickets. I’m not sure if I would be enjoying it here but it really feels exciting.
