From the Roma Termini station, we head out to get our bearings. We purchased tourist tickets for Rome but we weren’t sure where to get them. From my research, we were supposed to be able to get them from the Roma Termini station, however we weren’t able to find them. We were able to find a tourist bus which was associated with the tourist ticket but apparently, you have to get them from the office. We were still carrying our bags and unsurprisingly it was incredibly inconvenient to do that. So we decided to head to the apartment first. We took the Rome metro, for a city as old as Rome, it doesn’t have a lot of metro lines. There were only three lines open with the third line not yet fully integrated with the rest of the system. I have heard a lot of how difficult it is to get anything done in Italy, and maybe this was one of them.
Our apartment wasn’t exactly right there at a metro station. From the metro station we had to walk to the apartments, which seemed to be a few blocks away. First we needed to know which direction we need to walk. The signs weren’t very helpful and we ended up having to ask people on the street for directions. Fortunately, they didn’t need to have very good English to point us in the correct direction. Our apartment it seems, is located in a nice part of the city and as you might expect the apartment was quite nice. The caretaker was Filipino and seemed to have been there for quite some time having already picked up the language. The apartment is something I would want to live in. It was spacious and very tastefully designed. There were large works of art, giving you a feeling of being rich. It seems to be an old building with the lift still those cage type lifts you see in old buildings. Thankfully, the lifts are much bigger now and it can fit all of us in one go. Just remember to close the door when you go out, or the lift would remain on your floor and no one can use it!
