It was just as well that we came back to Venice quite early. We had dinner and there was still time for us to do some shopping. Not that I really needed it. I probably just needed a few souvenirs for some friends and I would be set. My friends had a lot of shopping to do. It was a very slow crawl back to the hostel since the way back to the hostel was lined with souvenir shops. I liked looking at the stuff but I don’t really need them. After a couple of hours, we made it back to the hostel. We had to pack since we were leaving the next day. I pack light so it was easy for me to just throw everything into the back. One of my companions had a full bag coming to Europe, I don’t know how you can squeeze anything more into that bag.
We had a quick breakfast the next day. We were in no hurry since the railway station was just around the block. That was the primary reason why we got this hostel in the first place. This time we were taking a train from Venice to Rome. I would have wanted to break the trip at Florence but my friends thought there wasn’t enough time for Florence. I will go there sometime. The train we took was a high speed Frecciargento service train operated by Trenitalia. As you might expect, this is the fastest way to get to Rome by land. Any faster and you have to fly. Flying also has its disadvantages, least of all the security patdowns that you have to endure. The train was very modern and not unlike the cabin of an airliner but roomier. Our trip would take a little more than three hours, that is very fast considering how far Rome is. The trip is also very smooth almost like flying on land. How I wish travel was this easy and convenient where I live.
