The day wasn’t as nice as the previous day. It seems that the whole day would be overcast, so colors won’t be so bright. That is a pity because the next place we will be visiting is known for its colors. We were on a vaporetto or water bus on our way to the some of the islands of Venice. Venice is actually an archipelago and some of its islands are inhabited. I was hoping that tourists won’t bother going to the outer islands and the it would be much quieter, perhaps see Venice as it is supposed to be. From the vaporetto station in front of the railway station, we took our vaporetto, along the way passing through the Grand Canal. We got to see a few houses here and it really is quite different seeing them from the water. Imagine having a door which opens to the water! This is all part and parcel of living in Venice.
The canal eventually opens up to the Venetian Lagoon. The lagoon looked large and it almost looks like a sea, however if you look at the map, there are quite distinct boundaries to the lagoon. The lagoon is quite shallow and you can tell through the color of the water. This is the lagoon which made Venice, people have lived here for centuries. Yes, it does flood every now and then and it seems to be getting worse but I don’t think people would just abandon this place. The lagoon has large wooden posts to mark where the “highways” are. This will help control the traffic so people won’t be sailing from all over the place.
