We will be exploring more of the lagoon the following day, for now, we will focus on exploring the city of Venice. Walking along the docks fronting the Venetian Lagoon, visitors will be able to see some important spots. I didn’t even know of these important places until someone pointed it out to me. Apparently, the Bridge of Sighs is one of those important places. So what was so special about this bridge? The Bridge of Sighs is a limestone bridge which crosses the Rio di Palazzo. Looking at it straight on, it doesn’t really look like it is a bridge at all, in fact it looks more like a head board missing the bed.
The Bridge of Sighs is actually a covered bridge, it actually has small windows but the grills in the windows make it difficult to see the outside and visa versa. I was wondering more about the name and thought that maybe people who see the bridge would sigh because it was so beautiful. The story isn’t that far from the official line but for a different reason. The bridge connects to the prisons and it is said that prisoners would sigh at their last sight of Venice before they are locked up. There were a lot of people trying to get a photo of the bridge as well. Gondolas also pass by this bridge so you might get a better view of the bridge.
