Not too far from the wet market in Venice was a dry market. As opposed to a wet market, the dry market sells dry goods. This includes vegetables, fruit and spices. I think this one is more interesting than the wet market. It was a bit dark in the wet market while the dry market was much brighter. I don’t know how touristy this place was, but I thought that it was quite interesting. There were fruit and vegetables that I have never seen before and they are probably only used in this region. More importantly, at least for me, were bags of spices which you can use in cooking. I have been into cooking lately, and I thought they were quite interesting. Perhaps I can bring back some stuff.
A lot of the stuff had Italian names on them so I wasn’t sure what they were. I don’t cook pasta that much so that probably accounts for why I am not familiar with them. Okay, Italians don’t eat pasta all the time, only most of the time. The dry market is an even better glimpse into the life of the Venetian. Probably one of the best way to see this is through their food.
