We didn’t really have a destination in mind in Venice as pretty much everything we looked at was nice. Most of the houses here in Venice were well preserved as if you were transported back to the medieval ages. It is nice that the canals of Venice were preserved since it would be too easy now to just reclaim land from the lagoon and connect Venice to the mainland. That would have been a disaster and a lot of the charm of Venice would be lost. Despite being in the modern era, there are still a lot of things which are done the traditional way. We came across this wet market in Venice.
I wasn’t sure if there was a name for the market but markets always interested me as it is in these places that you can see or at least catch a glimpse of how life was back then. The wet market is basically a set of tables under a large roof much like wet markets elsewhere in the world. It is wet because most of the stuff they sell here are fish. I don’t really recognize the different kinds of fish here but they seem to be locally caught. It also means that fishing is still a way of life here. While there were a few tourists looking around, there we still locals, at least the looked like locals, who would be coming here to shop.
