If you love design and architecture, then you will surely love walking along the banks of the River Seine. Not only are the buildings along the River Seine beautiful and historic but the bridges which cross the river are likewise beautiful and historic. I had a chance to see some of these bridges when we took the river cruise on the River Seine. It was a nice introduction to the bridges but it still better to be able to cross them on foot. One of the more significant bridges crossing the Seine is the Pont Neuf or New Bridge.
Contrary to its name, it is actually the oldest standing bridge on the Seine. The Pont Neuf is actually two bridges. The River Seine has an island, Île de la Cité, along the way and the Pont Neuf crosses the River Seine to the Île de la Cité and from the Île de la Cité to the other side of the river. The Pont Neuf looks very imposing and it looks a lot like a fortress. I think it might be because of this construction that the Pont Neuf is the oldest bridge on the river. There are numerous beautiful bridges on the river and it would be impossible for us to visit all of them. The might be a worthwhile activity the next time I drop by Paris.
