By this time, we were just randomly walking along the cobbled streets of Provins. It loved how charming the town is. The houses were well preserved and it oozed of the character of a small town. It is amazing how difficult it is to have thing kind of feel for a place in this modern world. Fortunately, some places really stay the same. On our way, we passed by an imposing looking house. This seems to be one of the more important places so we went in to have a look. The Romanseque House or Maison Romane is one of the oldest civilian buildings here in Provins. These days it is now the home of the Society of History and Archaeology of Provins. You couldn’t be blamed if you missed this place as it doesn’t really stand out that much. There was a small door amid the solid walls with a small sign. It was fortunate that we managed to see this.

As expected of a museum, it is basically a place to showcase the artifacts and relics found here in Provins and the surrounding areas. The Romanesque House has two levels, we explored the first and ground level first. There were a lot of stuff on display a lot of which I didn’t understand. There was an exhibit on tiles and it seems that they were quite popular back then. The clay extracted from Provins was quite highly prized and it seems Provins thrived on this as well. Much of the exhibits were medieval stuff and they were very interesting. The size of the museum was ok as well, at least I don’t have to walk hours and hours just to get out.
