The Caesar’s Tower in the medieval town of Provins is one of the most prominent structure here. The tower serves as a lookout point for the town. No doubt, the prosperity of the town also attracts unwanted elements. It was wise to build city walls and the tower as a defense against these invaders. The walls encircled the town and the Caesar’s Tower helped to augment the scouting capability of the town. The tower is composed of three levels. Visitors are allowed to climb up the tower and we will be making our way to the top soon. The stairway up the tower was narrow and parts of it were not even wide enough to fit two people, so you might have to wait for people to go up or go down before you can use the stairs. Claustrophobic people might have to give some parts a pass.
The first level was an exhibition area and a history lesson on how the tower was used back then. There was a stairway outside to allow visitors to go up the tower. This leads them to an open area or a least I thought it was empty. There was a projector there that told the story of the Caesar’s Tower and it was very much like watching movie. The room was dark to see the projection on the way and although it wasn’t exactly very “medieval”, it was very informative on the history of the tower.
